HI there! WE ARE the FIRST UKRAINIAN camp at BURNING MAN
Ukraine is very radical: we survived two world wars and Chernobyl, brought in to the world the largest airplane and two Klitschko brothers. It is very important for us to represent Ukraine in a radical and cool way! In 2018 Kurenivka camp will focus on supporting Ukrainian art.
Why is it called Kurenivka?
The Cossacks are our heroic ancestors, who were very fond of battles. When there was an opportunity to fight, the Cossacks would come from all over Ukraine to meet in a secret place.
Like modern Ukrainian burners, Cossacks self-organized into camps, called “kuren”. This ancient word has survived in the name of one of the neighborhoods on the outskirts of modern-day Kyiv — Kurenivka. That’s why our camp is called Kurenivka!
